Where Every Bite Tells a Story

Handmade cheese. Farm-raised food. A place to slow down and gather.

Jeffrey and Jenna Fenwick with their daughter Beatrix, owners of Back Forty Artisan Cheese

From Our Family to Your Table

Experience the flavours, sights, and life of a working farm. Back Forty is our home, our work, and our way of life. Step into this world: taste the cheeses we craft, wander the pastures, and enjoy life on the farm. Each visit is a chance to slow down, savor real food, and connect with the land and community that inspire everything we do.

Handcrafted cheeses, shaped by tradition and the flavors of our region

Our Cheeses

Crafted on the farm and aged in the cellar, our cheeses are made with raw sheep’s milk, shaped by hand in very small batches, and cared for using traditional methods. Each wheel delivers rich, complex flavors and textures — a true taste of artisan craft.

From soft, creamy bloomy rinds to aged, firm varieties, every cheese reflects hands-on attention, skill, and dedication to quality.

The Farm

Life at Back Forty

Here, animals graze and gardens grow under careful hands. Heritage breeds thrive outdoors, and fruits and vegetables feed both the family and the bistro. Each day brings work, learning, and discovery, as we tend the land, care for the animals, and embrace the quiet rewards of farm life.

This is more than a farm — it’s a place where the land, animals, and people work together, creating the ingredients and experiences that make Back Forty truly unique.

The Farm Bistro

Flavour, Place, and Community

The food we serve begins right here on the farm. Our cheeses, pasture-raised meats, and seasonal ingredients are grown and produced on site, then prepared simply in our kitchen. We cook using traditional methods — often over wood fire — allowing the ingredients and natural flavours to speak for themselves.

Set along the banks of the Mississippi River, the bistro invites you to gather, share a meal, and enjoy the surroundings. It’s a place for community — somewhere to slow down, listen to good music, and connect with the land and people around you.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. This is not formal dining or a polished restaurant chain. It is a small, owner-operated kitchen run by a very small team. We make the cheese, we raise the food, and we cook the meals ourselves.

The purpose has always been something simple: good food, grown with care, shared in a beautiful place, and the genuine connections that grow from it.
