Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful information for planning your visit to the farm.

  • We are not currently accepting reservations. Seating at the farm is casual and first-come, first-served, with a mix of picnic tables, balcony seating, bar stools, Muskoka chairs, and picnic-style seating on the grass.

If you are planning to visit with a group of eight or more, we appreciate advance notice so we can do our best to accommodate you.

  • Yes! We welcome well-behaved dogs on the farm, but ask that you:

    • Keep your dog on leash at all times

    • Clean up after them

    • Keep them out of the cheese shop

    • Ensure they do not bark excessively

This helps us maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all guests, animals, and our livestock guardian dog.

  • Back Forty is a working rural farm with gravel driveways and grass areas, which can make accessibility challenging. Sorry, we aren’t fully equipped for visitors with mobility limitations, as bathrooms and seating areas require navigating uneven terrain.

  • Our bistro offers a variety of vegetarian options, and many dishes feature our sheep milk cheeses, which are easier to digest than cow’s milk. Our aged cheeses contain no lactose.

    • Pizzas cannot be made gluten- or dairy-free.

    • Salads can be made gluten- and/or dairy-free.

We run a small team and are unable to make substitutions beyond what’s noted above, so please plan accordingly.

  • As a working farm and full-time cheese producer, we are not open to the public outside of our Friday and Saturday 12–8 PM hours.

You can place an order online for farm-gate pickup on any day of the week — we’ll coordinate a convenient time between 9 AM and 5 PM.

  • We do not offer tours to the general public, but visitors are welcome to take a self-guided walk around the gardens and grounds, where you can often see the animals grazing in the pastures.

The creamery features a large viewing window, and we are happy to explain our cheeses and answer questions while you visit.

If you are a wholesale customer and would like to arrange a visit or tour, please fill out the form on our Farm Stays page — we’d be delighted to accommodate you.
