Back Forty Provisions
Relocating to our farm in Mississippi Station was part of a larger vision. While we loved our old farm in Lanark, it was hard for visitors to reach. In those early years, we brought our cheeses to the Carp Farmers’ Market each weekend.
Here, we imagined a place where visitors could experience the craft and lifestyle behind our cheeses — see them made, explore the creamery, and taste them fresh from the farm.
In 2016, we opened our farm shop, which quickly became a gathering place for locals, cottage owners, and travellers — a space for conversation, laughter, and discovering good food.
Today, the shop offers our full selection of artisan cheeses, heritage meats, cured meats, and a carefully chosen range of provisions — from small-batch preserves and local chocolate to solar-roasted coffee, craft beer, cider, and wines in our bottle shop.
Each Saturday, we bake a small batch of traditional sourdough loaves in the residual heat of our mason wood oven. Only a dozen or so are made each week, available first-come, first-served. You’ll also find the week’s fresh free-range eggs, laid by carefully selected heritage breeds producing a unique bouquet of multi-coloured eggs, alongside thoughtfully sourced pantry goods that reflect the same care we bring to the farm.
Back Forty Provisions is more than a store — it’s an extension of the farm, a place to discover regional flavours, enjoy heritage products, and take a little of the farm experience home.
